The conference intends fewer words from speakers (although there will be one or two) and seeks to create a space where attendees talk with each other, share concerns and ideas, network, and decide on personal and/or collective actions. Issues include, but aren't limited to:
parent and student voice social justice and cultural empowerment high-stakes standardized tests
racism, classicism and adultism gender and LGBTQ rights language rights
democracy in schools vs school privatization school food quality eugenics and normalcy
play & developmentally appropriate learning the arts
Join community members for a day of information-gathering, inspiration and critical thinking about urban education. Tell your story and investigate other points of view while networking with new school, family and community partners. Through workshops, dialogue and play/arts-based activities, we will learn our history, write our vision of education, spark activism and generate energy for the ongoing work.
